Beth noted that Daryl seemed uncomfortable carrying her all that time. He shifted his weight to his other leg and she thought she saw something in his face, not exactly pain but she could tell his leg was bothering. She was kind of glad he didn't joke about her weight this time around though. 'You're heavier than you look'. But she made no comments knowing he was too stubborn to admit anything. He would probably be glad to drop her at the infirmary. Out of his sight. No longer his problems. She sighed. She really had to do better when it came to Daryl. If she kept bothering him with her accidents he would probably prefer Carl's company.
They were almost reaching Alexandria's infirmary when Daryl joked about Denise not chopping her foot off. Beth giggled but shook her head. "You really should hope so," Beth sassed him. "Otherwise you would be stuck carrying me all the time."
There was an hesitation from Daryl's part and for a moment Beth thought it had been something she said. She was about to apologize when Denise opened the door for them. "Hi Denise," Beth greeted the other woman with a genuine smile as Daryl carried her in and lowered Beth down one of the beds. He explained what happened and Beth looked embarrassed over it. It was such a stupid accident.
"Well," Denise glanced between Daryl and Beth. "Let's remove the boot and see what we have, shall we?"
Beth nodded and slowly and quite painfully pulled her boot and socks off. Her foot was reddish, tender and swollen. Denise started to check her ankle and Beth winced under the other woman's ministrations. She grabbed Daryl's hand out of instinct and squeeze it. She didn't realize the action could embarrass him, but she was in pain and she twisted her face and hid it against Daryl's arm.
Denise muttered a sorry noticing Beth's discomfort, but went on. "It's okay doc. I can take it," Beth replied, her voice muffled by Daryl's sleeve.
The exam went on for a few more moments until Denise decided it was a sprain and that Beth needed to rest her foot for a couple of days. They didn't have any ice packs to help with the swelling, but she would wrap the ankle up and Beth would be free to head home soon.

Daryl watched as Denise walked about the room as he leaned back against the side of the bed off to Beth’s left. She was close to him and every once and awhile he felt her shirt brush against the skin of his arm as she breathed in and out. Looking slightly in her direction he watched this action happen as he waited for Denise to come over. Once her perky voice hit his ears he looked away and watched Denise look Beth over and then move on to her ankle.
As the woman waited for Beth to remove her boot, he took note of Beth’s discomfort, however he didn’t expect Beth to grab his hand. If shock came over his face he didn’t mean for it to happen. usually he was strait aced and did his emotions. When Beth turned into his arm he felt a warmth come over his face. Daryl was a man of action and not words, however he remained frozen, hoping neither of them would notice he was slightly embarrassed. It wasn’t like it was a bad thing, Beth had hugged him before even, but for some reason this all just felt different to him.
As Denise finished up she looked up at the two over her glasses, and then looked directly at Daryl for a moment. He looked away, pretending to be interested in some odds and ends a shelf. However he wasn’t fooling anyone, Denise had seen the look on his face. The woman cleared her throat and started to talk to Beth about her ankle and how it was sprained, etc., all while pushing up her glasses on her nose.
Daryl turned back to the two and watched as Denise walked away to get something to wrap Beth’s ankle with. Well at least it wasn’t worse, but he figured Maggie would still be upset.
OCC: I'm so sorry for this Delay love!

Deep down Beth knew that holding on to Daryl for dear life like she had been doing would make him uncomfortable. She didn't notice Denise looks at them, at Daryl in special and if Beth realized that would make her feel bad. Beth never wanted to do something that Daryl didn't like. On the contrary, she always wanted to make him feel good and happy, at ease.
But she couldn't help herself right now. Every time Denise touched her ankle pain shot through Beth's body and she found comfort in Daryl's proximity; in his smell. He smelled like cigarettes and leather and it soothed her holding his hand and pressing her face against his sleeve.
Denise's voice, thankfully, pulled Beth away from the daze she was in, lost in Daryl's scent and also reminded her of the pain in her foot. Beth winced looking back at the doctor as the older woman grabbed some bandage to wrap Beth's foot. Denise told Beth that she shouldn't put any weight on her foot for a couple days as she wrapped the ankle tightly.
"I'll be a good patient," Beth promised Denise, smiling through gritted teeth. Denise was still manipulating Beth's ankle and Beth no longer had Daryl's smell or hand to comfort her. She had let of his hand when she felt he was too tense next to her.
Beth's ankle felt a lot better wrapped though and maybe Denise was right and she could be good to go after a couple of days of rest. It was just a sprain. Beth didn't want to be stuck in the house for too long. Denise had excused herself to get something on the other room and left Beth and Daryl alone for a few moments.
"See? Not so bad,"Beth told Daryl with a small chuckle as she rose to her feet or rather foot, since the other was just off the ground and she was keeping her balance rather precariously. "In a couple of days I'll be good to go again," she added rather positive about her recovery. She only wished she could hide from Maggie during those two days. Her sister would be so mad at her over this incident.
Beth flashed Daryl a grin just as Denise came back with crutches. Her breathing caught in her throat and Beth shook her head. "I don't want them...I don't need them," Beth stated, tugging her hair behind her ear still trying to keep a happy face. Crutches reminded her of her father. "I can hop home. It'll be good exercise." Beth joked and she met Daryl's eyes. He would understand her.

Denise finished up with Beth’s ankle and walked out of the room. He looked at Beth as she spoke, surveying her face. She seemed chipper enough. But then again that was Beth, always turning a sour moment into a good one. Daryl found himself smiling at her as she tried to assure him of her wellbeing. Beth returned with a grin of her own as Denise waled back in. Daryl’s face returned to normal as he saw the crutches in her hands.
He could sense Beth’s discomfort as she told Denise she wouldn’t need them. Denise started to protest and Daryl cut her off ”She won’t need them.” Denise’s face turned into a frown as the woman obviously could never understand why Beth would be opposed to crutches. But Daryl knew, in that moment he relived Beth’s pain as her father was murdered in cold blood. HIs stomach turned, just another good person he couldn’t save.
Daryl looked away from Denise for a moment as the woman still seemed to be in silent stupor. Returning his gaze he said, ”I can help her home.” Denise seemed to give up then and sighed as she put the crutches down and waved at them, stating they were good to go then and adding in that if Beth needed pain killers she had some. Daryl nodded subconsciously and turned to Beth, he would wait for her to make the first move since he didn’t just want to scoop her up in his arms again and take her home….or did he?
The thought flaunted itself in his head for a moment before he broke away from it and returned to present time. He smirked a little as he looked to Beth and said, ”Well after you Sargent Hops.” He of course would help her if needed, but in that moment Daryl felt the need to tease her to lighten the moment and hopefully remove her from her tragic memories.[/b]

Beth wasn't surprised Daryl picked up on her discomfort regarding the crutches and she smiled softly at him. Her eyes were teary, but she didn't cry. The smile it was her way to tell him thanks without using her words. Denise was clearly lost on the situation and Beth didn't feel like explaining her issues with the crutches. Logic told Beth to use the crutches but Beth Greene was never big on acting according to logic.
"I'll be okay without them, Doc." Beth assured the other woman after Daryl said he would help her home. Beth knew he would. He was her knight in shining leather after all. Denise put the crutches away and Beth felt like she would breath a little better.
Beth had come in terms with her daddy's death. She grieved and mourned him and then she put it away. The crutches didn't trigger her, but at the same time, it brought her bittersweet memories. It made her think of her daddy and how strong he was after he lost his leg. It made her remember the good and bad times after the farm and at the prison. It made her remember Lori and T-Dog. It made her think about the the many naive dreams she had about the prison.
'We could live here for the rest of our lives.' Except they couldn't and they didn't it. Sooner or later they all had to run. Beth didn't want to look at those crutches. Right now she had hopes and dreams for Alexandria. Beth wasn't naive to think about the rest of their lives here but this place could work. She wanted it to work.
They still needed a place to be.
When Daryl called her Sergeant Hops Beth giggled and worked on keeping her balance on one leg as she squared her shoulders and looked at the door. "I'm the best at hopping. You can ask Maggie about it," Beth sassed. She leaned down to grabbed her sock and boot; she tugged the sock on her back pocket and held the boot on one hand before she started hopping towards the door.
Beth knew she could actually hop all the way to the house, but she would be beaten by the time she reached home. She hopped the small distance to the clinic's front door and leaned against the doorframe. "You should hop too, Mr. Dixon." Beth grinned at him. "For support. I can hop race you home," she teased him and kept hopping on. All things considered this wasn't a bad day at all.
