Beth was still struggling to get a good grip on her knife and twist her body enough so she could hit the walker, but the walker was low on her body and with her foot trapped there was just so much maneuvering room for her before it was too late. She still didn't shout for help and it wasn't out of some sense of pride. She simply didn't want to drawn more walkers to her. She had no idea how far away Daryl was after all. She knew he would come looking for her eventually but she didn't know how long that would take.
He had a pig to catch after all.
She heard movement off her side and Beth looked relieve when she saw Daryl running towards her. Beth was still kicking the walker away but she smiled lightly. "Daryl..." she breathed and there was her grumpy knight in shinning leather to the rescue. It seemed he was always saving her there days and not just literally saving her life.
He kicked the walker and began to struggle with it. For a split of second Beth thought the walker would get the best of Daryl and she felt her heart sinking in her chest. She sat up, foot still in the hole and started to pull it out. She had to twist her foot in order to get enough room to pull it out and the pain sent shivers through her body. Beth winced and glanced at Daryl trying to reach his knife.
"Please don't get bitten. Please don't get bitten", Beth muttered under her breath; it was almost like a chanting and when he managed to kill the walker Beth felt a wave of relief wash over her. She stopped struggling to get her foot from the hole and just sat there breathing heavily and looking at Daryl.
She didn't know what she would have done if he had gotten bitten. Swiftly, Daryl was at her side examining and she grasped his arm. "I'm okay...just this damn hole for in my way," she was saying breathless but smiling genuinely. "Are you okay?" Beth asked just before she felt Daryl arms around her and his strong body against her and she relaxed in his embrace. This had been the first time Daryl had hugged her this way.
Beth rested her cheek on his chest and breathed him in. Her arms came around him to return the embrace but he was pushing her away. Was he embarrassed? "Sorry!" he mumbled and she shook her head. "Don't be," Beth told him giving his arm a quick squeeze. "I like it," she added blushing furiously and looking at her foot.
"I guess I needed a chaperone after all," Beth joked and motioned the hole. "I'm trying to pull it out but I'm stuck," she explained with an exasperated sigh. "I think I twisted my ankle...again." Beth rolled her eyes at her own stupidity.
"What's up with you and me and twisted ankles?" she flashed Daryl a grin then. That seemed to be their thing whenever they were hunting something together.

”Don’t be…I like it” Her words reached his ears and he looked at her for a moment. She was beaming her signature smile at him and Daryl actually gave her a small one back to his surprise. He was relieved. Beth had asked if he had been ok before he had hugged her so he replied after he had broken the embrace, just to smooth the moment over because he still was slightly embarrassed for having hugged her in that fashion. ”I’m fine.”. Daryl had a flash back when he was sitting on the road after having lost her to the car from Grady. This feeling was comparable to what he felt right then and there, but she was fine and wasn’t going anywhere.
He looked back down at her ankle as she brought it back to his attention. It looked worse for wear, but he didn’t think she had broken it. Shifting his body he knelt down beside he foot and picked it up after carefully removing it from it’s earthly prison carefully. ”Can you move it?. She was right, she did have a nack for twisting her ankle when they were together. And to think of it both times had been hunting, and both times involved a Walker. That was something to make him chuckle a little. ”You haven’t persuaded me otherwise.” he said in regards to her comment about needing a chaperone.
Daryl thought he heard more rustling in the bushes. Looking up for a moment to observe their surroundings. One of the times he had been hunting with his dad , he had been crouched down just like the pair of them were now, playing in the dirt. His father had come from behind, cursing that he should never be so low to the ground in the wild, it made him easy prey. Daryl hadn’t believed it until his dad’s friend had been out hunting in similar fashion and was attacked from behind by a cougar. So need to say Daryl felt a little uneasy in that moment observing Beth, and he knew they needed to move back to the safety of Alexandria and it’s guards on post sooner rather than later.
He moved back closer beside her again. ”Put your arm around my neck.” He figured he would have to carry her back. He wasn’t about to let her try to walk on her foot until she was inspected by Denise at the infirmary. His mind wandered back tot he slain pig. Hopefully he would just be able to come back after making sure shows ok and taken care of to retrieve it.

'I'm fine' Beth was glad to hear those words and she lifted her hand to cup his cheek for a brief second. She had no idea what she was thinking when she did that but it was like her body just reacted on instinct. "I'm glad," she breathed still smiling, pulling her hand away quickly to place on his shoulder as if she was looking for support. Beth was still feeling her skin hot from the connection though. When did a simple touch make her skin burn like this?
She was such a stupid girl. She rolled her eyes inwardly at herself, fighting the flush on her cheeks. Daryl would probably think she was acting weird, or worse, acting like some silly girl with a crush. She could only hope Daryl was too busy checking her ankle and removing it from the hole to notice anything. She winced a little when her foot was freed from the earth's grasp but it didn't feel as bad as she thought it would.
Beth assented when he asked if she could move it and show it to him, making a face. Her foot was tender but this wasn't like the last time she had twisted. "I don't think it's broken or anything. It might be just a sprain," Beth said and giggled at this comment. "Maybe I just like you saving me all the time," she teased him casually as some noise in the bushes drew his attention.
She looked between Daryl and the woods and tensed a little. There could be more Walkers and they were an easy prey there on the ground, especially if she had any troubling walking. 'Put your arm around my neck.' she heard Daryl said and Beth bit her lip before sliding an arm around his neck. "I think I can walk, Daryl." Beth wasn't sure but she could try it; she wouldn't mind Daryl carrying her again. It made her think of the funeral home and how he set a breakfast table for them and then carried her into the room even though she was just a couple steps outside the kitchen.
They had good memories. It seemed all her good memories involved Daryl Dixon. "What about the pig? We can't leave it here."

Daryl tried to focus on Beth’s leg, he wasn’t sure about the way he was feeling at that moment and when he wasn’t sure of something he usually tried to ignore or push it away. He felt weird and he didn’t like it. From her soothing words to briefly touching his face, and then resting on his shoulder he just wasn’t sure what to make of it.
“Maybe I just like you saving me all the time Her comment brought his back to his senses, slightly. She did have a back for being saved all the time, but it occurred to Daryl that he usually was the one to save her. ”What else could I do? You know…” Observing her ankle he concluded that she definitely shouldn’t walk on it, especially after having had witnessed her wince from moving it. Shaking his head after she objected to his motion of carrying her.
”I don’t think you can very well, and I don’t want you to injure yourself more. Now come on.” He waited for her to give in to his plea and put her arm around his neck. His ears couldn’t pick up any movement around them at that moment but he knew time was ticking for them to get moving. Beth questioned the Pig and he thought for a moment. He could try to figure out a way to haul them both back to Alexandria, it wouldn’t be impossible to do beth wasn’t that heavy, but Daryl shook his head instead.
”Nah bringing you back is more important.” He paused for a moment looking at her, realizing something. But then he looked away, ”I can come back out and grab it after getting you to see Denise. We’re not that far out. Now come on.” He waited for her to put her arm around his neck before lifting her up.

'”What else could I do? You know…”'
Exactly. What else he could do if she was always getting herself in a position to need saving? No wonder Daryl would never look at her as nothing but Maggie's little sister who needed protection. Who needed to be kept safe. Beth felt deflated. This was all her fault. She should have paid more attention and she should have handled that walker by herself. She knew how to fight; she didn't need rescuing all the time even if it seemed to happen often whenever she was around Daryl.
"I guess I need to stop forcing you to save me all the time", she muttered somewhat embarrassed that she put herself in this situation. Daryl wouldn't ever take her seriously if she kept needing him all the time. Just another dead girl.
Beth wondered how things went so wrong when they seemed to be having a good time. She wasn't feeling weak or a burden to him when they were out here and now she began to feel like a burden was all she would ever be to him. Beth hated this feeling. She wasn't this insecure. She had always been aware of her weakness and her strengths. She had always been aware that she hadn't changed enough, but she could do better. She could be stronger and someone Daryl could, at least, respect again because somewhere during their time together after the moonshine shack Beth felt like she had earned Daryl's respect and here she was losing it because she got her foot trapped in a hole.
He insisted in carrying and Beth nodded agreement. She wasn't about to argue with Daryl about her foot. She didn't feel like it was so bad that she couldn't walk, but he wasn't going to let her anyway. There was no point on arguing about this. They couldn't afford to stay in the woods too longer considering she was in no shape to fight efficiently if they were surprised by a group of walkers.
She placed her arms around his neck and let herself be lifted. She put her weight on her good leg for a moment as she tested her foot on the ground. Daryl was talking about the pig and how he would get it later. That she was more important and she offered him a thankful smile. It was kind of him but that was Daryl. He was always thinking about others first. "Thank you, Daryl. I'm sorry our hunt was ruined," she added quietly. She was already dreading seeing Maggie when she found out Beth got hurt outside the walls. Denise would probably ground Beth for a few days and Beth would just get even more restless.
"I'll have to make up to you one of these days," she offered. She wasn't sure what she could for him. It wasn't like Daryl needed anything from her after all.

Daryl noticed Beth’s agitation slightly. Was it something he said? Quite possible he was always saying the wrong things in situations. He wished he knew how to fix it, but maybe she was having one of those girl moments for all he knew. He bit his lower lip in thought for a moment while she debated following his directions so that he could be able to carry her back. Finally she gave in and Daryl oddly had relief wash over him. Perhaps it was because he didn’t want to fight her about it. Daryl slowly stood up with her and watched her test her foot on the ground a little. As he suspected it pained her.
He was taken back by her sudden apology. He hadn’t thought things had gone south at all. On the contrary, he was elated that she was alright. ” Don’t be.” He tried to express the fact that he was alright with everything, that she hadn’t ruined anything. It was frustrating sometimes when he couldn’t figure out the right thing to say. He listened to Beth continue her apology by stating she would have to make it up to him. ”Well,” He started as he scooped her up with ease, ”I’m not opposed to dinner sometime.” He gave her a light smile. He was only teasing her, he wouldn’t ever expect her to have to do anything for him, but if she really wanted to, he wouldn’t be the one stopping her.
Daryl looked around their surroundings, finding the direction they had come from, and started to walk that way, carrying Beth. The action brought back warm memories and sad ones, but Daryl pushed them out of his thoughts and just focused on getting her back safely.
He listened to his own footsteps making crunching noises in the dried grass and fallen leaves at his feet in silence for a few moments before speaking again to lighten the mood, ”I don’t think I’ve seen finer pig chasing in all my days.” He couldn’t help but send a teasing smirk her way.

Beth felt sudden joy when Daryl told her not to be sorry. She knew she had ruined their little fun hunt, but it was nice to hear that he didn't seem to mind much. Beth knew that Daryl didn't make a habit of saying things he didn't mean so she took his honest words and just smiled at him.
She let out a soft giggle when he scooped her up. It reminded her of the funeral home and how happy she was back then. They had lost everyone, they had lost their home and Beth Greene was happy being in Daryl Dixon's arms. It made her stomach flutter. There were so much sadness in the world and they faced so much adversities, but Daryl Dixon made her feel happy just for being in her life.
"Oh," Beth breathed when Daryl mentioned a dinner. That wasn't something she ever thought Daryl would suggest even as a joke. It sounded almost flirty but he wouldn't flirty with her, would he? "I could do something," she said with a genuine smile, perhaps a little too eager. She'd love to cook for him. "I mean, offering you dinner after all this is the least I can do," she said sweetly, trying to ease her racing heart as the words came out.
When he mentioned the finer pig chasing Beth's heart just filled with warm. It was like he was saying things just to make her feel better about the ruined hunt. She was usually the one trying to see the bright side of things, but Daryl was being that person to her and she loved him for it.
"We need to do it again," Beth stated, her mood brighter. "Without twisting ankles of course. I missed spending time with you...you know, in the woods." She chewed on her lip and wondered if she had said too much or overstepped the boundaries of their relationship.

Daryl continued walking out of the woods carrying Beth and listening to her talk about potential dinner. He wasn’t sure why but the sound of it just sounded like a nice simple evening, and it was an opportunity to avoid Carol’s cooking. That women for some reason decided to cook with the weirdest things. Fricken Beet cookies. He stepped over a small ditch that lined the roadway, and could see the walls of Alexandria in the distance. Soon they would be back. He was actually surprised by the fact that they hadn’t run in to any trouble so far. Then again he didn’t want to jinx them.
”I’ll take you back out if you want to. It would be doing me a favor, sparing me from Carl’s company.” The kid had wanted to go hunting with him a few days prior when he was heading out to track some deer. He chuckled slightly shaking his head. ”He’s good at hunting Walkers, but terrible at hunting animals.”. But deep down he knew it was an opportunity to spend with her away from Alexandria, where he could be himself. I missed spending time with you...you know, in the woods. Her words rang in his ears, and he wasn’t sure how to react. He would be lying if he said he did’t agree. He looked down at her for a moment in his arms and then returned his eyes back to Alexandria, which was looming closer.
”It was simple then.” It had been easier to just worry about Beth and himself he realized. Now it felt like Daryl had the weight of the world on his shoulders, but he knew Rick must have felt like that this whole time they had all been together. Daryl could just barley make out who was on watch, at least it didn’t appear to be Maggie or Glenn, he knew they both would give him a mental lashing for Beth being hurt.

Beth tried not to make a big deal of the dinner idea. It wasn't anything special. Daryl was probably just wanting to be nice to her or wanting to avoid dinners with the rest of the group. Beth knew how private he was and perhaps he just needed a break sometimes. Beth wouldn't mind being his excuse to avoid family gatherings. She could pretend he really wanted to be around her. It was a nice illusion. Beth knew she was just fooling herself that it could meant more than it did, but that was okay. Nothing wrong with being silly and stupid once in a while; it was just in her head and Daryl's company always made her feed good.
"Sure," Beth tried not to sound disappointed when Daryl said that taking her out would spare him from Carl's company. That was her confirmation that he was just using any chance he had to avoid some of the family. Her silly illusion was breaking down right there. Beth pressed her lips together and looked away from Daryl. It was hard not to look at him considering how close her face was to his, but she didn't want him to pick up on her disappointment. She should be happy to know he would rather endure her company rather than going out with Carl.
"I don't want to impose or anything though," she added quietly. Beth didn't want Daryl to think he had to take her out. She just liked being around him because she liked him, but he had no obligation. She knew he had other things to do, more important things than chaperon her.
"I didn't know Carl was bad at hunting animals," Beth commented casually. Carl was always a quick leaner in Beth's eyes and she imagined he could become a good hunter if he set his mind on that, but perhaps it just wasn't something natural to him like using a weapon turned out to be.
Daryl's next words made her look at him again. "Yeah. It was," she agreed with him meeting his eyes and smiling lightly. It was simple and it felt good and Beth felt bad for sometimes wishing it was just the two of them again. Beth and Daryl against the world. "Somedays I..." Beth began to say, but she didn't get to finish as they reached the gates and the person on watch gave them a curious look.
Beth turned her attention from Daryl to the Alexandrian on watch - thankfully it wasn't Maggie or Glenn because Beth would be hearing about this for days if that was the case and Daryl would have to face 100 questions about how this happen and so on. "I twisted my ankle on a walker's face," Beth told the man on watch in jest.
She grinned at the man but it suddenly hit her that her adventure with Daryl was ending and her face dropped a little. He would take her to Denise and then he would go do whatever he had to do. She would be stuck inside these walls and probably on house arrest for a couple of days. Maybe Daryl would come visit her, Beth thought but that was another illusion wasn't it?
OOC: Don't worry, Panda. Your replies was fine <3.

As they approached the gate, Beth and started to say something but stopped herself as they reached the gate. Catching the look from the guard on duty, Daryl returned with a look of his own and the guard motioned down to whomever was on the gate to open it. Beth then spoke again, but it wasn’t to finish what she had started to say, instead it was a jest towards the guard while they waited for the gate to open. He couldn’t lie and say he didn’t want to laugh at it, but for some reason he became nervous about Beth’s injury, Maggie for sure was going to grill him when she found out Beth had hurt her ankle with him.
As the gate opened, Daryl shifted his weight of of his left leg which he had seemed to put all of their weight combined on while they waited for the gate to open. His leg screamed little as him, but it wasn’t anything to cry home about. Walking through the opened portion of th main gait, Daryl nodded to the young woman on duty. He did’t wan’t to cause any small talk about the situation so he proceeded eyes forward, trying to avoid anyone onlooking the pair walk down the main street and towards the infirmary.
He doubted Denise would keep Beth in the infirmary, probably would clear her to go home with Maggie and Glenn, as Daryl thought about this he said, ”Hopefully Denise won’t chop off your foot.” He was joking since the young woman was only a psychologist, but Daryl had grown kind of fond of Denise, he respected her guts. Especially after what had happened with Carl and how she managed to pull through and save him.
Daryl reached the steps of the infirmary and hesitated for a moment. Here ended their journey he tried to think of something to say but also didn’t want to seem too much of a fool so he cleared his mind and stepped up the coulee step to the infirmary’s porch. Denise must have seen them coming because she opened the door for them. As Daryl squeezed past her carefully so he didn’t knock Beth’s foot on the doorframe, Dense questioned what had happened.
”Sprain we think.” He carefully set Beth on one of the beds they had pulled into the room’s space. ”She decided she would kick a Walked in the face.” He smiled at Beth as he carried on her jest from earlier.
