It had been two days since the group's run to the mall. They had made it out with some supplies and more or less unscathed. Beth counted as a victory. She even managed to find a couple interesting items that proved useful for her plans this evening. Beth also had the house to herself and that felt good. It made her feel more grown up. Not that she wasn't an adult but people still looked at her as the young Greene. The baby Greene and Beth was growing tired of it.
This was actually Aaron and Eric's home though. Beth never had a privacy moment at her own house except when she was in her room and she couldn't do what she wanted tonight at her room. It was a dinner. A dinner date. It wasn't an actual date. Beth didn't think so. It could be if he wanted but it wasn't like he wanted. Right? It was just a dinner. A thank you dinner. That was all there was to it. She still couldn't do this at her home. Maggie wouldn't leave her alone and Beth didn't want to make things uncomfortable for Daryl even if this was just a dinner between friends.
Beth talked to Aaron about her plans of cooking dinner for Daryl; how she had promised him after the incident outside the walls, but she wasn't sure how to go about it since her house was usually crowded. Aaron offered his place then; his kitchen. Beth couldn't be happier when she took his offer. He would spent the night with Eric at Olivia's place playing some board game and Beth would have the house for herself.
There was a teasing glint in Aaron's eyes when he told her to enjoy the evening after she arrived at his place with the ingredients for dinner. Eric laughed but spared Beth of any teasing. Beth felt her face warm and red as she tried to explain this was just her saying thanks to a friend but it didn't seem like either Aaron or Eric were buying that. In the end she just thanked them both for the help and the house and went to the kitchen to start on dinner.
Aaron and Eric left by the time Beth started with the stew. It was possum stew. Beth was no chef, but she figured stew was something easy to cook with the few ingredients she had at her disposal. It wasn't like she could make a quick run to a grocery store and buy things for a fancy dinner. Also, it wasn't like Daryl was big on fancy dinner anyway. She figured simple would work the best for both of them. She also made spaghetti; just in case the stew was a big failure with Daryl.
Beth didn't want to ruin thisdate dinner between friends. It was a thank you dinner.
By the time the stew was done. Beth went upstairs to the guest room to take a shower and change. She looked at the two options at the bed and sighed. Eric told her to wear a dress. It was a cute dress too, but it felt like it was too much. It was dinner with Daryl Dixon who probably only saw her as Maggie's little sister and a friend. A dress meant this dinner was more than it had to be.
Beth sighed and went with jeans and a blue one shoulder top plus her signature boots. That felt more natural and more Beth. She let her hair loose though and made sure her knife was strapped on her belt. Happy with her own reflection in the mirror - she barely noticed her own facial scars, maybe she was growing used to them already - Beth rushed downstairs to set the table and give the stew the final touches. She also made sure to check the wine. Moonshine was their thing if they had a thing, but Beth only had wine this evening.
She bit her lower lip and checked the clock on the wall. Daryl would probably arrive room if he came at all. She hoped he would. Beth would understand if he had any plans but she really hoped he would show up. It was just dinner after all.
Just dinner.
Not a date.
Not at all.
Sigh.
