"Oh, Reverend Shane's preaching to you now, boy."
A quiet, soft spoken, patient man, Luis is very shy, especially around women. But he is highly intelligent and loves to talk about and share ideas on various topics. He seldom curses and is reliable and loyal. He loves kids and loves to see them learn and grow. He is a teacher, after all.
He's also a learned man with a Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture but he also teaches English to migrant workers. Born in the United States by legal immigrants from Mexico, his parents traveled with the seasons from California to Florida working various farms and orchards.
But his parents wanted more for their only son so they saved their money and got help with grants and Luis went to UCLA where he majored in Agricultural studies but also teaching English to Spanish speakers. His purpose was to help migrant workers to improve their lives by speaking and understanding English. He figured that was they at least had a better chance at improving their lives both on and off the fields and orchards.
Working as a migrant worker, Luis moved across the country and joining other workers picking avocados, tomatoes, peppers and lemons on the West coast as well as corn and potatoes in the Midwest and oranges in Florida, eventually ending up in Southeast Georgia picking the world famous Vidalia onions. All the while he taught classes in English to both children and adults.
But it was while he was in the onion fields outside Vidalia that the world went to hell. A couple of workers were feeling sick so went to lay down in the shade of an oak tree. Shortly several others began to get sick. Luis went to get the owner of the field but even the man and his family had been sick but then changed into blood thirsty fiends. That's all he could think to call them. Running away he went back to the fields where the workers were and found many of the sick people had risen and had killed the other workers and were eating them alive. It was the most horrible thing he had ever seen. When some of them chased him all he could do was grab a machete and run for his life.
For the next several weeks he wandered from place to place surviving on what he could find and hiding out where he could find. He was chased by evil men whose intent was to steal what little bit of supplies he had. Seeking a place to hide he ran down a dirt road and hid in a field of corn. Later he met a black woman who was hiding in an old farmhouse with a young white kid. Making friends with them he stayed at the farmhouse until the boy was killed by what the woman called the creeps.
After burying the boy, Luis traveled with the woman until they found a group that had made a settlement inside a factory that had once been turned into a warehouse and then into luxury apartments. It was headed by an older man. It was a safe place to live. A year later it was attacked by a group called the Whisperers and set on fire. In the melee Luis again ran for his life and, along with a group of survivors, they traveled across country in various vehicles. When they would break down the survivors would walk but that made them vulnerable to attack and their numbers were slowly reduced from twelve to ten and than to seven.
He finally made it to Washington D.C. with seven people but that number was whittled down to three before they were found by some people from Alexandria. Unfortunately two of them were bitten so he was the sole survivor. The Alexandrians nursed him back to health so, as a thank you, Luis started and maintained a large garden so the group could enjoy year round vegetables. He also planted apple trees. In the spring his garden produces strawberries, carrots and red radishes. In the summer; tomatoes, zucchini and string beans, and in the fall; winter squash. And of course onions.
But when he's not farming he does guard duty and, when it is needed, he goes on supply runs with others from the group.

Jamie couldn't figure out why Ember wasn't answering her phone. He'd been calling for two days with no acknowledgement from her. It was like he didn't exist to her. Calling her today again there was no answer so he left her a voice message.
"Hey Ember. It's me, Jamie. I hope everything is alright. Joey misses you and wants to know when you'll come over to see her. If something is wrong please let me know. Bye."
Apparently she hadn't been home at her apartment in days and no one had seen her, either. He was beside himself to know what to do. So he did the only thing he knew to do. A few hours later he called her again.
No surprise ... it went to voice mail.
"Ember, sweetheart ... please answer your phone. If you can't than please call me back. I so want to hear your voice. I really miss you. Besides, I have some good news to tell you. Please call me back. I ... I ...," he so wanted to tell her he loved her but felt nervous and scared that she's reject him or he'd scare her off so he didn't say it. "My doctor cleared me to go back to work. I start tomorrow morning. Please call me."
"The whole world's having a tough time"

Other • I've been RPing for approximately 15 years. I am an older, handicapped person in my mid 60's but I feel in my late 20's inside. My body often times tells me, "You wish." Been called a crazy cat lady. I am a believer in Jesus Christ but I am not religious. I believe in being polite and giving others the benefit of the doubt. I am forgiving and very patient and will give others a chance to reply to my posts. All I ask is to be treated the same. I have a great sense of humor but try never to be offensive. And I am a huge Walking Dead fan. I was once as admin on a TWD site that closed down but that was several years ago. I love to write and am glad to be a part of this site and making IC drama with other characters. I promise that is the only drama I will make. So, let's have some fun.
