"Oh, Reverend Shane's preaching to you now, boy."
Slightly Selfish •Lacking consideration for others; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure. It’s no secret that Enid only cares about herself. Well, most of the time that’s the case, as there are some people she holds at the same (if not higher) level than her. But even she knows that once things go bad, she’s gone. She does this simply because she wants to keep herself alive, to keep surviving instead of staying behind to watch things fall apart around her. Sure, leaving the people she supposedly cares about to fend for themselves is uncaring but that’s just how the world has molded her.
Careful •
Making sure of avoiding potential danger, mishap, or harm; cautious. Enid can’t do anything without looking over her shoulder at least once. She’s never one to just do something without thinking it over first. There’s always a reason behind everything that she does, even if it seems pointless for her to do it. This goes the same for people as well; there just isn’t a bone in her body that trusts people all the way. Sure it may seem like you’ve gotten on her good side, but she can snap and throw you away in a heartbeat.
Loyal •
Giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to a person or institution. Enid is someone who, although rarely, can easily grow close to people. Certain people. It might never happen often, but once that bond is there, it's there. She'd never do anything to double-cross the people she trusts or cares about and will try to help in any way she can.
Candid •
Truthful and straightforward; frank. As it’s been stated, Enid isn’t a big talker, but one thing that’s good about this is that she tells the truth. That’s all there is to it really. She will tell you straight up what she thinks, whether it’s considered rude or not. There isn’t anything in her mind that filters what comes out of her mouth, and it’s not like she really cares either. She says what she thinks and she does what says.
Withdrawn •
Not wanting to communicate with other people. Enid used to be very different. She loved talking to people and spending time with her friends and family. But since the world died, that girl did too. She's used to being alone most of the time so it's kind of hard for her to talk and connect with people she doesn't know. Most of what comes out of her mouth isn't very nice to begin with, so why should she say anything at all?
Spiteful •
Showing or caused by malice. While Enid is quiet and seemingly dead on the surface there is a sheltered flame burning inside of her. She hates the world for what it's become. She hates the people in the world who have made everything worse than it already is. She hates the dead for taking her away from her family. And she also hates the dead for making her feel like she has to glance over her shoulder every minute of the day. As "nice" as she tries to be, there is always that part of her that is itching to just attack someone and get away. After all, she's still just a little girl trying to live you know?
Clever •
Showing intelligence or skill; ingenious. She never shows it, but Enid can be very smart. Maybe it's just some skills she’s picked up off of the street, but if she allowed herself, this girl could do some truly amazing things. However she's closed off so people don’t get to see what she does unless she gets caught in the act, but even then it's only a select few people. Then again, there are some things she's done that aren't so smart, like pushing people away or slowly losing herself, but you'd eat a turtle raw too if it meant feeling full for just a few hours.
Enid •
Before Alexandria, Enid had been with her parents. A loving mother and father who did everything they could to keep themselves and their daughter alive and well. Their efforts never went unnoticed, Enid tried to help whenever she could. And even when she couldn't, she still helped by continuing on instead of wallowing in a cesspool of pity and regret. When her parents died, right in front of her mind you, her whole demeanor took a 180° turn for the worst and she did nothing to help flip it back around.
She let things die, including herself for the most part.
Enid wandered; aimlessly for a while, but still, she just kept moving with the flow of the world until she couldn't any longer; however life on the road caused her to feel inhuman. She felt like she had to be somewhere, and Alexandria kind of just popped into her mind. It was either that or the large, withered billboard sign that caught her attention. Either way she made it there, but even now she stops herself and refuses to let herself to fit in with the people inhabiting the so called "safe zone", but she continues to have silent hopes for good future. For herself, at least.
"I hereby declare we have spaghetti Tuesdays every Wednesday"
It was quite windy out, and the sun had started its venture out of the sky to make room for the moon. She suspected it’d be a crescent tonight, but she could always be wrong. Kristley used a stretched band to tie her hair up to keep it out of her face, though some stray strands still managed to escape her grasp and fly straight into her line of vision. Annoying … she thought, tucking the wisps of hair behind her ears. She was supposed to be gathering water at the lake, or whatever was left of it to be honest. It was drying up with the weather and she doubted that it would be raining anytime soon. The last time she saw rain was a few months ago, and it had turned into a storm that had destroyed the surrounding areas around the camp, not to mention the campsite itself. She’d know, she was practically forced into the clean-up committee and she had the splinters to prove it. Kristley knew that she’d be in trouble if she returned without anything to drink, but thankfully she was smart enough to grab some before she wandered off.
She moved down the tracks as quietly as should could, hoping that the darkening sky would keep her hidden for as long as it took her to get back to the houses. Not the campsite, that place has started to become hell for her. It made her feel anxious and she didn't like that feeling. The homes she'd come across were run down, some of them had sunken roofs, most likely from rain damage or something else harmful that Kristley couldn't put a name on at the moment. However there were only two that looked like they'd been taken care of, except for maybe some broken furniture and missing floor boards.
When she'd finally made it inside of one of the houses, “her house” as she likes to call it, she made sure to push a chair under to doorknob to prevent anyone from coming in when her back was turned. She'd definitely hear a chair slam on the hardwood floor from anywhere in the house, a good thing about homes with large spaces.
She didn't exactly have a good reason to be in the house at such a late hour, it was surely dangerous to be outside of the camp without anyone with her. Though being at the camp didn't feel like home to her anymore, the abandoned (and slightly broken) house she stood in now seemed to fit her better than a cabin ever would. Kristley didn't take much time to look around, since she'd already mostly cleaned out the front rooms and the kitchen, so she rushed up the rickety stairs to one of the cleared rooms. It was pretty clean, thanks to her, with a few blood stains here and there. The dead seemed to get in everywhere nowadays. She glanced around for a second and then headed to her usual spot on the floor by the window, making sure that the dark blanket that served as a curtain covered it all except for a small sliver to let some light in.
Her hands tightened around her backpack before slipping it off of her back, hurriedly unzipping it and pulling out a book and a slightly bruised apple. It was all she had to spare from her meals of the day, but it was enough to keep her occupied while reading the rest of the worn book that had been sitting in her pack for who knows how long. But as she sat there chewing on the old apple, completely immersed in the chapters of the book, Kristley decided that it wasn't so bad to defy the rules sometimes.
