Bridge took the canteen from
Luis Diego with a grin, her eyes brightening all the while.
"Thanks," she said while she poured some of the clear water over the berries. The blonde was careful not to use too much before giving it back to him and offering some of the dark small to snack on.
"So, what did you do before this?" She asked curiously while she thought about his knowledgeability in regards to edible wild flora. Bridget knew a bit on the subject, but he seemed to know much more. Her skillset rested more in traditional agriculture. Farming. On a small scale and all of her acquired knowledge of wild edibles came with a certain level of
accidental field experience.
For now she was feeling content with the subsiding of her hunger pains and the company she was currently keeping. Bridge smiled up at Luis as he explained his past and put a berry into her mouth.
"I've traveled across this country working as a migrant workers from California to Florida. I've picked all sorts of fruits and vegetables." The blonde nodded as she listened and ate the last berry she held. Luis moved on to speak of a future rich and plentiful; full of possibility for the town of Alexandria.
She was tickled with the idea of starting strawberries from seeds and immediately offered her assistance when he said he would
".. need all the help [he could] get." "How soon do we start?" Bridget said cheerfully and wiped the palm of her hand onto the thigh of her pants. There was a smile and the sudden sense of deja vous. This was how she got her job training guard dogs before the apocalypse. One retort led to another
and another...and a week later, she was training security canines.
"But that's a whole different season yet to come." Bridge chuckled at his comment. She knew one of her faults could be getting ahead of herself. She was aware the seedlings wouldn't fare well in the winter months; planting them now would have yielded very little; more than likely,
nothing.
Those two factors together were obvious indications that this assignment was yet to come...a
distant task, but one she was earnestly interested in helping with.
She was good at growing things; Bridge did have a green thumb. Even more though, she enjoyed watching the process of life. In ways, she was an incredibly nurturing individuals. She found great joy in gardening.
"I'm serious about helping though;" she nodded lightly and looked up at him.
"Just let me know when.""I've got several packets of seeds I've collected over time."
Bridges lips began to curl into a small smile.
"That's awesome. It's cool Alexandria's big enough to be able to do stuff like this." She glanced down at her hand, eyeing the dark stain that remained on her palm from the berries.
"I've always liked the idea. " She paused and glanced at him for a brief moment, but when she felt herself begin to blush, she looked over at the berry bushes.
"I mean..." she shrugged.
"I like that we can...grow things." She herself had a little herb garden, that was doing quite poorly, in the window of her room at the temporary residents hall. There simply wasn't the space or light needed to let the plants take root. Three of the four were runts, but the greenery in her bedroom was more therapeutic than practical.
"I was lucky to get my hands on them." Bridge nodded in agreement and tucked a piece of hair behind her ear.
" I'll show them to you sometimes if you want to see them." The blondes eyes fluttered up to his and her lips parted, but no words escaped. Her face was still slightly flushed and her smile was a curious mix of excitement and hesitancy.
"No strings attached. Just being friendly."The blonde giggled and raised her eyebrow.
"Well," she looked at
Luis Diego , squaring her shoulders and smiled.
"That'd be great. Yeah. " The blonde smiled.
"Ya' ever thought about any indoor gardening?" She paused for a moment. With a chuckle and a little shake of the head, she couldn't help but admit.
"Come to think about it, I've never noticed if we have a greenhouse..."
